BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Sandra Skinner scored 25 points and hot-shooting Clark County hit 10 3-pointers to defeat Corbin 79-70 on Thursday in the first round of the KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16.
Skinner’s 9-of-11 shooting keyed a 62-percent performance from the field by the Lady Cardinals (26-7). She also had seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks for Clark County, which plays Marshall County in Friday’s quarterfinal at Western Kentucky’s Diddle Arena.
Sydney Anderson scored 14 points, while Paige Taylor and Lexxus Graham each had 12. Graham contributed six assists and two steals for the Region 10 champions.
Miranda Wilson had a game-high 26 points and six steals for the Region 13 champion Lady Redhounds (26-8), who also got 13 points from Jaclyn Jewell and 10 from Brooklyn Ashurt.
Marshall Co. 54, Perry Central 38
Bailey Greer scored 20 points as Marshall County defeated Perry County Central 54-38 in the first round of the KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16.
Greer also had four steals for Marshall County (31-5) on Thursday, which will play Corbin-Clark County on Friday at Diddle Arena.
Allie York followed Greer with 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Region 1 champion Lady Marshals led 11-2 and made five 3-pointers in the first half for a 14-point advantage at the break.
Kayla Rankin scored 11 points for Perry County Central (23-7) and had eight rebounds. Perri Coots added nine points and four rebounds.
The Region 14 champion Lady Commodores lost for the first time since Jan. 24 and ended their 13-game winning streak.
Ashland Blazer 65, Henderson Co. 48
Shelby Gransberry scored 24 points as Ashland Blazer defeated Henderson County 56-48 on Wednesday in the first round of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Girls’ Sweet 16.
Gransberry also had six rebounds and three blocked shots for Ashland Blazer (25-8), which faces the Danville-Shelby Valley winner on Friday at Diddle Arena. Mykassa Robinson added 11 points, three rebounds and three steals, and Alexis Robinson had nine points, four rebounds and two steals.
Ashland Blazer shot 50 percent and outscored Henderson County 19-6 in the final period. In fact, the Region 16 champion Kittens didn’t allow the Lady Colonels a fourth-quarter field goal until 33 seconds remained in the contest.
Kacie Wallace scored 12 points for Region 2 champion Henderson County (24-6). Deasia Outlaw had 10 points and six rebounds.
Danville 52, Shelby Valley 48
Alyvia Walker scored 15 points and Danville defeated Shelby Valley 52-48 on Wednesday in the first round of the KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 tournament.
Walker had three rebounds, two assists and three steals for Danville (25-7), which meets Ashland Blazer in Friday’s second round at Diddle Arena.
Essence Grey had 14 points, six rebounds and four assists. Cameron McPherson added 11 points for the Region 12 champion Lady Admirals.
Shelby Valley (24-7) shot 50 percent from the field and outrebounded Danville 26-19, but the Lady Kats committed 17 turnovers leading to 17 Lady Admirals points.
Taylor Rowe’s 15 points including three 3-pointers led Shelby Valley. Lakyn Mullins added eight points and eight rebounds, while Savannah Honaker had eight points and four rebounds for the Region 15 champions.
Also on Wednesday, it was Lafayette defeating Glasgow 61-47 and Butler edging Newport Central Catholic 54-52. Thursday’s late games were Elizabethtown vs. Sacred Heart and Anderson County vs. Meade County.
