The Bell County Lady Cats ran into a buzzsaw on Thursday in the form of the Clay County Lady Tigers and junior pitcher Leslie Roberts.
Roberts struck out seven in a five-inning no-hitter to lead Clay to a 12-0 win.
Whitney Mullins was the only Lady Cat to reach base as she was hit by a pitch in the third inning. Bethany Miracle looked to have a single for Bell in the bottom of the fifth when she poked a grounder through the right side of the infield, but Clay right-fielder Kashia Jackson came up throwing to first just in time to get Miracle out.
Alex Roberts singled and double to drive in three runs to lead the Lady Tiger offense while Briana Smith had a two-run single, walked twice and scored four runs. Roberts double in the first inning brought in Smith for a 1-0 lead.
Clay County added six runs in the second inning. Tracey Hubbard, Alex Smith and Jalyn Loughran all singled to to start the frame and make it 2-0. After Alicia Hicks walked, Smith delivered a two-run single. An error later in the inning paved the way for three more runs to score and the Lady Tigers never looked back.
Courtney Baker took the loss for the Lady Cats. Over five innings, she allowed six earned runs on eleven hits while striking otu four, walking five and hitting one batter.
Both teams return to action on Monday with Bell County (1-5) playing at Southwestern and Clay County (6-2) hosting Barbourville.
