HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Cumberland Gap Lady Panthers avenged an earlier loss to Harlan County on Thursday with 5-3 win over the Lady Bears.


Chelsey Williams went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored and Tessa Pittman homered to lead the Lady Panther offense.


Pittman got the scoring started with a home run over the left-center field fence with two out in the bottom of the first inning.


Harlan County rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the second as Tia King, Destinee Jenkins and Chyanna Harris all singled to load the bases and Mallory Johnson drew a walk to force in one run and Jessie Johnson singled to bring in another.


Cumberland Gap answered in the bottom of the frame as Samantha Pierce reached on an infield single and advanced to third on an error. Williams followed with an RBI single and later scored on Makenzie Miracle’s base hit to put the Lady Panthers on top 3-2.


They added a run in the fourth when Williams laced a two-out triple down the left field line and then scored on a wild pitch.


Julia Satterfield singled to start the Lady Panther sixth and stole second. With one out, she advanced to third on a Pierce ground out and then scored on Williams’ infield hit to make it 5-2.


Cumberland Gap pitcher Genna Lake held the Lady Bears off the board from the second inning to the seventh. Harlan County got one run in their last at bat as Farren Clark single and then scored on a double by Savannah Sergent to set the final score at 5-3.


Lake got the win after scattering eleven hits over her seven innings while striking out three and walking two.


Destinee Jenkins suffered the loss for the Lady Bears, giving up five runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.


Harlan County (7-4) plays at Harlan on Saturday. Cumberland Gap (9-4) was scheduled to host Knox Central on Friday and will host Harlan on Monday.
