Harlan pummeled a pair of outmanned 14th Region opponents on Saturday at Alice Lloyd College, defeating June Buchanan 18-8 and Owsley County 27-2. The Dragons collected 39 hits in the two games, improving to 8-6 on the season in the process.
Caleb Hogue led the Green Dragons in the victory over June Buchanan with a double and three singles. Tye Patrick had a double and two singles. Noah Busroe showed off his speed with a three-run inside the park homer at the spacious college field and also added a single. Ben Abraham contributed a double and single. Jordan Turbyfill and Jacob Clark each added two singles. Austin WIlson had a double. Jacob Hensley, Corey Burns and Austin Miller added singles.
June Buchanan capitalized on 13 walks to score eight runs. The Crusaders had only nine players, including several in middle school whose size made it difficult for the Dragons to find the strike zone.
Hensley pitched one inning and allowed one run on two walks. Wilson allowed five runs in two innings with seven walks and two strikeouts. Clark allowed two runs in two innings with four walks.
Busroe, Hensley and Turbyfill each had three singles in Harlan’s 20-hit attack against Owsley. Hogue added a double and single. Cory Chorak singled twice. Clark had a double. Miller, Andrew Saylor, WIlson, Burns, Patrick and Abraham added one single each.
Patrick pitched two innings, giving up two runs on one hit with six strikeouts and five walks. Miller earned the win as he gave up one run on one hit with three strikeouts and five walks.
Austin McQueen had both Owsley hits with a triple and single.
Harlan travels to Middlesboro on Monday before playing the host to the Jackets on Tuesday.
