NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn. — The Cumberland Gap Lady Panthers swept two games from rival Claiborne on Friday. CGHS rolled to a 21-2 win in game one, but had to rally for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out an 11-10 win in game two.

Senior shortstop Katelyn McCarty led a potent Lady Panther offense in the opener. She went 5-for-5 with a triple, scored four runs and drove in one. Junior catcher Tessa Pittman nearly matched her with a 4-for-5 game that included two doubles, three RBIs and three runs.

Julia Satterfield had three singles, walked and scored three runs while Lindsey Elliott also drove in three with a triple, a single and a sacrifice fly. Makenzie Miracle had two hits and a walk and scored three runs. Samantha Pierce singled, walked and reached on an error and drove in three runs. Jourdan Thacker, Genna Lake both singled and walked twice and Chelsey Williams added two singles, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI.

For the Lady Bulldogs, Lakota Bull singled twice, scored a run and drove in one. Kaylin Patterson had an RBI single and Allison Noah reached on an error and scored a run. Brittany Rosenbalm also singled in the game.

Lake was the winning pitcher. Over five innings she allowed two runs, one earned on four hits while striking out six and walking two.

Claiborne showed right away that it would be a different story in game two as they put up three runs in the top of the first inning. Lindsey Cooper led off with a single and Brooke Walker followed with an RBI triple. With two out, Rosenbalm doubled to plate Walker and Summer Walker added an RBI single for a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Panthers struck right back in their half of the first. Pittman singled to score Miracle and Elliot doubled to bring in McCary. Thacker followed with a two-run double to put Cumberland Gap up 4-3. She went to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a Satterfield’s ground out. With two down, Pierce singled, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-3 after one.

Miracle walked to start the second inning, advanced to third on an error and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Pittman.

Down 7-3, the Lady Bulldogs rallied to tie the game in the top of the fourth. Noah walked, advanced on a wild pitch and then scored as Bull reached on an error. Cooper added an RBI single and Katie Imber belted a two-run double to make tie the game at seven.

Williams scored on a McCarty ground out in the bottom of the inning to put Cumberland Gap up 8-7. Claiborne tied it again in the fifth when Bull singled to score Rosenbalm.

The Lady Bulldogs got RBI singles from Brooke Walker and Teri Brogan to take a 10-8 lead in the top of the sixth.

But the Lady Panthers had one last rally. Williams reached on an error, Miracle walked and they both came around to score on McCarty’s triple. Pittman followed with a fly ball to left that was deep enough to bring McCarty in with the go-ahead run.

Noah singled with one out in the top of the seventh, but Lake retired the next two batters on a ground out and a pop up as Cumberland Gap held on.

Cumberland Gap (13-4) will host West Greene on Tuesday.
