ROCK HILL, S.C. — Lincoln Memorial University juniors Jonathan Lowe and Logan Sawyer have been named to the 2014 Food Lion SAC Baseball Championship All-Tournament Team, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The Railsplitters (27-17-1) fell short in their title defense, suffering setbacks to second-seeded Wingate and top-ranked Catawba after a tournament-opening victory over Newberry. But, both Lowe and Sawyer dazzled in Lincoln Memorial’s SAC Championship showing.
Outfielder Jonathan Lowe (Sidney, Ohio) was 6-for-12 with four runs scored, two RBI, a double and a walk in three tournament contests, reaching base safely in seven of his 13 plate appearances. Lowe led the Railsplitters at the plate in a 7-2 win over Newberry as he was 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Lowe, a transfer from Sinclair Community College, completes his debut season in the Blue and Gray with a .346 mark, 44 hits and 21 RBI.
Right-handed hurler Logan Sawyer (Knoxville, Tenn.) carried the Railsplitters’ to their only tournament win by tossing a seven-hit complete game. He allowed only one earned run while striking out a career-high 10 batters, earning the final Railsplitter of the Week honor for his efforts. The Seymour High School alum finished with a 7-4 record and 66 strikeouts in 74 2/3 innings pitched, tallying three complete games along the way.
After bowing out of the SAC Championship early, the Railsplitters must await an at-large selection to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. The field for that event will be announced via a live selection show at the NCAA.com on May 11.
