HARROGATE, Tenn. — Lincoln Memorial University junior outfielder Scott Miller (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District III Baseball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced recently.
Scott Miller was one of five South Atlantic Conference student-athletes to be represented on the Academic All-District Team, joining Catawba’s Paul Kronenfeld and Julio Zubillage, Anderson’s Nate Galliford and Newberry’s Chas Goodwin. Miller was the only non-senior out of that group to earn the nod. The CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District III list is composed of student-athletes from the Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas along with the SAC.
Miller, a Farragut High School graduate, finished the 2013-14 academic year with a 3.71 grade-point average while continuing to complete his undergraduate degree in mathematics.
On the field, Miller was a key piece of a Railsplitter squad that tied program records for South Atlantic Conference wins (16) and highest SAC finish (3rd). Serving as the team’s leadoff hitter for most of the season, Miller finished with a .325/.425/.444 batting split, collecting 52 hits, 12 doubles, two triples and 31 RBI. Additionally, Miller drew 18 walks and 18 hit-by-pitches while ranking second on the team with seven stolen bases. The right-fielder posted 13 multiple hit games with eight multiple RBI games.
By earning the nod for the Academic All-District Team, Miller advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be chosen later this month.
To be eligible for Academic All‐America consideration, a student‐athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
