MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Lincoln Memorial University senior outfielder Brianna Mulkey and junior utility player Amanda Snow have been named to the 2014 Daktronics Softball All-Southeast Region Second Team, region officials announced on Tuesday.
Mulkey collects All-Southeast Region second team laurels for the third consecutive year, concluding what has been another monster season for the Kettering, Ohio native and Fairmont High School graduate. Mulkey was an All-South Atlantic Conference First Team selection for the second time while she was also tabbed with CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District. Back on April 22, she was crowned as the Female Athlete of the Year at the year-end, annual LMU Athletics Banquet.
Mulkey led the Lady Railsplitters with a career-best .412 batting average, compiling a team-high 54 hits with a gaudy .510 on-base percentage (also a career-high). She finished third in the South Atlantic Conference in batting average, third in on-base percentage, second in stolen bases with 19, sixth in walks with 26 and 17th in hits. Mulkey crossed home a team-leading 36 times and racked up 57 total bases. The recent graduate collected 14 multiple hit games while reaching base safely in all but three of the team’s 43 games. Additionally, Mulkey compiled a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage, finishing error free in 48 total chances this season.
Mulkey has left a lasting impression on the Lincoln Memorial University softball program as her name is checkered throughout the career record book. Mulkey is the school’s all-time leader in stolen bases with 119, which ranks fifth in South Atlantic Conference history. She also ranks third in school history in runs scored with 132 (11th in SAC history), fourth in hits with 214 (one of only five in program history with 200+ hits), eighth with a lifetime .358 batting mark and eighth with career .422 on-base percentage.
Snow was awarded All-Region distinctions for the second time in her career (first team selection in 2012). It was another productive year at the plate for the Knoxville product as she batted .314 with 37 hits, five doubles, six home runs and 29 RBI, leading the Lady Railsplitters in both homers and runs batted in. Snow also slugged a team-high .508 while reaching base at a .421 clip. Snow tallied 21 runs scored and racked up a team-leading 60 total bases. The Fulton High School graduate and All-SAC Second Team honoree collected nine multiple hit games and seven multiple RBI outings.
Snow was equally productive on the mound for the Lady Railsplitters this season as she compiled a 5-1 record while leading the team in earned run average with a 1.41 clip (third-best in the SAC). Snow chucked 44 2/3 total frames, allowing only nine earned runs over that phase with 40 strikeouts. She collected four complete games and two shutouts while holding opponents to a dismal .223 batting average.
Heading into her senior season, Snow is fourth in school history with 66 career walks, sixth in home runs with 25 and eighth in slugging percentage with a career .578 clip.
Behind Mulkey and Snow, the Lady Railsplitters compiled a 26-17 mark despite playing 11 games against teams who qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Lincoln Memorial finished fifth in the final South Atlantic Conference standings after winning a program-best 12 SAC contests. The Lady Railsplitters were the last team left out of the NCAA Southeast Regional after sitting in the eighth and final spot in the regional rankings heading into the 2014 Food Lion SAC Championship.
