LOUISVILLE — Lincoln Memorial University senior outfielder Brianna Mulkey collected her second All-Region accolade from the 2014 campaign as she was named to the NFCA All-Southeast Region second team, officials with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Thursday. Mulkey was also a Daktronics All-Southeast Region second team selection.

Behind All-South Atlantic Conference first teamer Mulkey, the Lady Railsplitters (26-17) finished on the cusp of an at-large bid to the NCAA Southeast Regional while setting the program record for SAC wins with 12 despite seeing the regular-season finale at Wingate washed out. In addition to her All-Conference and two All-Region laurels, the Kettering, Ohio native was a CoSIDA/Captial One Academic All-District honoree as well as the Female Athlete of the Year at the LMU Athletics Banquet.

Mulkey posted one of the strongest individual offensive seasons among SAC student-athletes as she finished third in the league in both batting average (.412) and on-base percentage (.510), setting career highs in each category. Mulkey racked up a team-high 54 hits while finishing second in the SAC with 19 stolen bases. The recent LMU graduate drew the sixth-most walks in the league this season with 26. Additionally, she scored a team-leading 36 runs while compiling a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage in center field. Mulkey recorded 45 putouts and three assists in 48 total chances.

She recorded 14 multiple hit games headlined by a monster 4-for-4 outing with three runs scored in the Lady Railsplitters’ 8-6 triumph over then 15th-ranked North Georgia on February 17. On five other occasions, Mulkey contributed three hits including a 3-for-3 showing in a 9-1 thumping of 25th-ranked Columbus State. From March 18 until April 5, Mulkey tallied a season-high 11-game hitting streak. The four-time All-SAC selection and three-time Daktronics All-Region honoree reached base safely in 40 of the team’s 43 games.

The 2014 season was just a piece of what has been a monumental career for Brianna Mulkey, who leaves Lincoln Memorial well established among the all-time greats in program history. After starting the ninth-most games in history of the LMU softball program, Mulkey exits as the career leader in stolen bases with 119, which ranks fifth in South Atlantic Conference history. Mulkey is third in school history and 11th in SAC history with 132 runs scored, while her 214 hits is ranked fourth on the all-time charts. Both her lifetime batting average (.358) and on-base percentage (.422) are eighth in the career history book.

NFCA member coaches in the eight national regions nominated and selected this year’s All-Region squads. All honorees are eligible for selection to one of the three NFCA Division II All-American teams, which are slated to be announced on May 21.
