Arson suspected in forest fires

An increase has been recorded in recent days of arsonists setting woodlands ablaze in the region.

There has been an increase of arson activity, said district forester Jared Calvert.

On Tuesday, a forest fire was set in the Pine Mountain State Park/Wasioto Winds area.

According to Calvert, the fire was reported by airplane and was 60 acres large.

Crews were still working on the fire on Wednesday. Arson is expected. A four-wheeler was spotted near the forest fire and is believed to have a connection with it.

Calvert also stated there were five new fires reported on Wednesday. No information was released on whether arson is expected in those fires.

If anyone has any information in regards to the fires, they can call 1-800-27arson. Individuals can remain anonymous. There is a reward offered of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
