A malfunctioning cappuccino machine was the culprit behind Monday’s panic at Cumberland Market. The Middlesboro Fire Department doused the machine to stop the smoke. Pictured below: Cumberland Market employee Gail Nicols coughs from the smoke as she goes to meet with Firefighter Glenn Webb.

MIDDLESBORO — Emergency responders were on scene to fight what could have been a dangerous scenario at a gas station Monday morning. The Middlesboro Fire and Police Departments responded to reports of smoke billowing from Cumberland Market convenience store on Cumberland Avenue at roughly 10 a.m.

Thankfully, there wasn’t a blaze. A malfunctioning cappuccino machine caused the panic when it began smoking. Store employee Gail Nicols said she immediately called the fire department for help when a customer noticed the smoke. The fire crew doused the machine and set up fans in the store to blow the smoke out.
