City personnel policy revised

MIDDLESBORO — In a quick meeting Tuesday night, Middlesboro City Council approved the second reading of the city’s personnel policy ordinance.

City employees will now continue to accrue sick leave and vacation leave while on disability leave for period of two weeks after the accident or illness. Those receiving worker’s compensations will not be affected by this ordinance.

Council approved a use agreement between the city and the Bell County Refuse and Disposal District to put a recycling center on city property.

Street Superintendent Leeman Moyers announced that city parks are officially closed for the year. Also, Halloween has been set for Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Middlesboro resident Angela Jackson asked the council to consider giving out awards to a deserving employee with “over 20 years employment.” Jackson proceeded to name many of the city employees she thought deserved the award.

Mayor Ben Hickman nor the council had a response for Jackson. Hickman thanked her, then adjourned the meeting.
