Elvin Jesse Shackelford, 81, passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at his home.

Born Dec. 10, 1930, in Middlesboro, he was the son of the late Lincoln and Maggie Bryant Shackelford. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force proudly serving 22 years. His tours of duties include Vietnam, Philippines, and Puerto Rico. After his military retirement, he operated several businesses in Middlesboro including S&S Video, Sun Palace, Speed Check Market and Palm Villa in Daytona, Fla.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gobel Shackelford and Leon Shackelford.

He is survived by the following members of his family: brothers,Marshall Shackelford and Dallas Shackelford; children, Jesse Alan Shackelford (Tammy), Annette Shackelford-Maiden (Buddy), and Michael Lee Shackelford; his former wife and mother of his children, Juanita Shackelford Yoakum; grandchildren, Eric Lambert, Brent Lambert, Rhonda Lee Laws, Brandon Shackelford (Angie), Krystal Shackelford-Cameron (Joe), Jeremy Shackelford and Joshua Shackelford (Tori); and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

At Mr. Shackelford’s request he was cremated by the Creech Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Creech Funeral Home.

Military honors will be given at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the headquarters of the American Legion Dewey Guy Post #14 in Middlesboro.

Interment will take place at a later date.
