To the Editor:
Dear Elydale Elementary Supporters, I very much want to tell everyone how much our school appreciates all the help we received from the surrounding community in our quest to win the 2012 Trex Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge. We won !!!! Our gratitude goes to our students and their families, supporting individuals who delivered countless bags to Elydale, our faculty for asking and reminding everyone, all the local businesses that helped us collect, and especially to the coordinator at our school, Mrs. Emily Woods. Several churches also supported and collected bags for us.
Not only does this contest remind everyone how many bags could have gone to a dump site, but it also puts those bags into a recycling process that allows them to be reused and not end up in a landfill. One of the prizes we received was a bench made from recycled plastic. That prize triggered a new project to create an Elydale Recycled Garden in front of the school. Look for this colorful addition in the weeks to come.
Sincerely,
Tara Williams
Principal
