Staff Report

The Middlesboro Fire Department (MFD) responded to an abandoned house fire on Friday. The house was located near Queensbury Road and sits behind the Church of the Living God of Holiness. No injuries were reported.

The fire started around 10:40 a.m. It took close to three hours to put the fire out. According to MFD Chief Tim Wilder, arson is expected.

Wilder stated abandoned houses appear to be targets for arson. He said there have been four to five abandoned house fires in recent months.

Wilder said they have leads on the fire on Friday. He stated the leads came from the public.

“I’m checking all the leads I can,” said Wilder. “If you live near an abandoned house keep an eye out for suspicious activity.”

Wilder said to report suspicious activity to the Middlesboro Police Department or the MFD.
