FRAKES, Ky. - A Frakes woman has died after a 10-day battle for her life following a car accident on State Highway 74 just outside of Middlesboro.

Glenda Gail Berndt, 57, of Frakes, Ky., passed away Wednesday, March 23, at the University of Tennessee Hospital.

Berndt was traveling in a Chevrolet Cavalier on Hwy. 74 on Sunday, March 13, when she lost control of her vehicle, Bell County Sheriff Bruce Bennett confirmed at the time of the wreck. The Cavalier struck a guardrail and overturned down a steep embankment. Berndt was extricated from the car by Bell County Rescue Squad, was taken to Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital by the Middlesboro Fire Department and was then air-lifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Bell County Sheriff’s Deputy Shane Stewart, who investigated the accident, confirmed on Thursday that Berndt did die as a result of the severe injuries she sustained in the accident.

Berndt was a member of the New Vine Missionary Baptist Church and had worked at the Middlesboro Wal-Mart for over 20 years.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the Creech Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the New Vine Missionary Baptist Church.

It's so sad. My prayers go out to the family.

Such a dangerous road. Perhaps if the state would at least repave that road, it might be a little safer to drive on.
