Frontier Health is offering an APA training, “Trauma Informed Care: Clinical and Systemic Perspectives,” with Kristin Dean, Ph.D., on Oct. 4, at 8:30 and 4:30 a.m. at Millennium Centre Buffalo Room in Johnson City, Tenn.

“We have become increasingly aware of the multiple negative consequences of trauma exposure, among both military and civilian populations, although the consequences are not always obvious and are often untreated,” Dean said.

The workshop will review prevalence rates of trauma exposure and the subsequent sequelae, including risk factors for developing chronic mental health symptoms; and evidence-based treatment components and strategies for systemically providing trauma-informed care. The workshop will address secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue, its impact on behavioral health providers, and strategies for minimizing its effect.

This workshop is designed to help you: have an understanding of the prevalence of traumatic events and subsequent symptoms; learn the understanding of treatment outcome research and identified evidence-based interventions; and learn the characteristics of compassion fatigue and methods to reduce the impact both personally and professionally.

Kristin Dean, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and health service provider in Tennessee. She provides outpatient mental health services at Cherokee Health Systems in downtown Knoxville. She is the project manager of the University of Tennessee-Cherokee Health Systems Center of Excellence.
