HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Cumberland Gap Lady Panthers faced a less than ideal foe for senior night as undefeated Grainger rolled into town and came away with a 67-40 win on Tuesday night.

The Lady Grizzlies were led by Blake Lamb’s 18 points while Celeste Stratton added 14. Those two along with Amber Farmer and Holly Black hit two 3-pointers apiece as Grainger hit eight of 14 from long range in the game.

Lamb scored seven of her points in the first quarter and Stratton added six as Grainger (22-0, 9-0 in District 2-AA) built a 23-7 lead and never really looked back.

Though a big upset win was ruled out early on, Cumberland Gap’s four seniors all found the scoring column in the game. Danielle Caldwell hit three 3-pointers to finish with a team-leading nine points. Ashley Ridgeley and Whitney Elliott added seven points each and Kierstyn Carmical was able to convert a steal into a layup in the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Chelsea Bingham, who finished with eight points, scored four in the first period for the Lady Panthers to go along with a Caldwell 3.

The second quarter saw Caldwell knock down another from long range while Ridgeley scored four of her points. Genna Lake added three off the bench and Elliott had a basket. Meanwhile Grainger got 3s from Lamb and Farmer and four points each from Laura Johnson and Tailor Morgan as they pushed the lead to 39-19 by halftime.

Cumberland Gap got a basket from Ridgeley and 3s from Caldwell and Elliott in the third quarter, but the Lady Grizzlies answered every time the game got closer than 20 points. Lamb scored eight in the period and Black hit her two 3s as they extended the lead to 58-31 after three.

Bingham scored four of her points in the fourth quarter and the Lady Panthers also got Carmical’s basket and jumper from freshman Tessa Brooks, but Grainger went on to the 27-point win.

Both teams return to action Friday with Grainger hosting Chuckey-Doak and Cumberland Gap (4-15, 0-8) visiting arch-rival Claiborne.
