The Middlesboro Yellow Jackets held they’re ‘Midnite Madness’ football celebration Friday at Bradner Stadium.
The high school players and cheerleaders were introduced to the crows along with the players and cheerleaders from the Middlesboro Youth League teams and the MMS team.
Jacket coach Randy Frazier said recognizing those younger players was an important aspect of the night, which has become sort of an unofficial start to the football season and the school year.
“That’s what it’s really all about is getting these kids out here in front of our great crowd and congratulating them on making the decision to play football,” he said. “It takes special people to come out during a hot summer and practice every day. It takes special people to be a cheerleader and all the way from the Bees up to the high school, on behalf of my coaches, we want to thank them.”
He added that plans are being put in place to incorporate some of the high school team’s philosophies
We’re taking this thing all the way from the Bees up to the high school. I haven’t been personally have not been there, but (athletic director) Bill Jones, (youth league president) Gary Ferguson and myself talk every day and we feel like it’s going to help our program.”
“You go up there and you work extremely hard. I think we’re very young and our kids are coming together well. That’s what’s camp’s for to make sure they all bond and get together and they did that. We all enjoyed everything that went on up there We’ve got to understand that we have to get some work done tonight and not just take a day off.”
“I know a lot of people are disappointed, but teams dropped us. When they drop you turn around and nobody’s going to come to your place on a one-year deal. We found six schools that didn’t have a ballgame and the team that dropped us went out of state and played someone else. We were going to have four home games and the City/Bowl at Bell, we consider that close to a home game. It’s tough, but when you have a team to drop you it’s out of our control. They paid the forfeit fee and it was just a matter of finding a game and we found Shelby Valley, but the only way they would play us is if we went up there.”
“It is kind of the unofficial start and it’s good to recognize all of the rec. league teams. We’re bringing all of those kids and cheerleaders out here and it’s a time for them to stand in front of the crowd.
