Jim Brown Supply has served Middlesboro for the last 27 years. Jim Brown Supply is this week’s installment of Surviving the Hard Times for area businesses.

Jim Brown Supply opened in 1986 by Jim Brown. The business was originally located at 1817 Cumberland Ave., the current home to Buttery’s Floor Covering.

Doug Knuckles purchased the store from Brown in 1998. He moved the business to its current location in 2005. The store is now located at 1701 North 25th Street, across from Walmart.

Last year, Jim Brown Supply expanded and opened a garden center. Knuckles said he likes to give back to the community which has supported him throughout the years. One way he does this is by providing his customers with products made in Kentucky.

Many of the plants found in the garden center are locally grown.

The garden center is being prepped now for opening to meet area residents and farmers needs for the spring season. Flowers and vegetation are for sale now inside the store.

In addition to the garden center, the store sells a variety of electrical and plumbing accessories as well as lighting fixtures, doors and appliances.

Jim Brown Supply also rents various types of machinery for the do-it-yourself jobs, inflatables for children’s birthday parties and U-Haul vehicles for those needing to transport items.

The store also features a place for contractors to call home. Knuckles has a special section of the store where local contractors can come and meet with their clientele to discuss their needs prior to making purchases.

Jim Brown Supply is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.
