Staff Report

The Kentucky State Police apprehended the last of two inmates who escaped from the Bell County Forestry Camp earlier in the month.

Timothy D. Bowling, 38, of Wallins, escaped from the camp along with Sammy L. Chilton on July 2.

According to a press release from Post 10, Bowling’s whereabouts were discovered through an anonymous tip turned in to KSP Trooper Jared Boggs. Boggs and KSP Sgt. Jeremy Lee located Bowling at a residence in Rio Vista. Bowling was arrested without incident at 4:10 p.m. and taken to the Harlan County Detention Center. Bowling was placed on a $100,000 full cash bond.

According to previous reports, Bowling was serving a seven-year sentence for trafficking, receiving stolen property and theft. Prior to his escape, Bowling was eligible for parole in January 2013.

Chilton was apprehended within a week of the escape. KSP Trooper Jason Joseph arrested Chilton at a residence in the Wallins Creek area. Police mounted a search for Bowling during this time, but did not locate him.

Chilton was serving a five-year sentence for first-degree trafficking in Marshall County. Prior to escaping, Chilton would have been eligible for parole in February 2013.
