Lady Cats win, Bell boys 2nd at Bobcat Inv.

LOG MOUNTAIN — It was a good day to be a Brown at the Bobcat Invitational cross country meet Thursday.

Bell sophomore James Brown won the boys race while his sister Kelly, an 8th-grader, took first in girls varsity competition.

Kelly Brown led the Lady Cats to a first place team finish. Her time of 23:08.65 was not far ahead of teammate Jamie Collins who took second in 23:25.47.

It wasn’t a bad day for the Collins family either and Jamie’s sister Brittany placed fourth with a time of 24:54.19.

Also placing for the Lady Cats were Caitlin Gibson, fifth in a time of 26:26.16, Anna Tanner, ninth in 27:51.94 and Katherine Woods, 11th in 28:00.45.

Williamsburg was second and Knox Central third in the team standings.

In the boys race Knox Central took first place as a team as their runners placed two, three, four, five and six behind Brown.

Brown’s winning time in the 5K race was 17:30.62.

Devin Edwards of Knox Central was second in 19:05.51.

The Bobcats placed second as a team. Joining Brown were 8th-grader Ben Collett, 10th in 21:19.17, freshman Nathan Tanner, 11th in 21:34.39, senior Anthony Saylor, 14th in 22:25.79, senior Quintin Fletcher, 18th in 23:03.86 and sophomore Brandon Manning, 28th in 29:54.58.

Williamsburg was third and Harlan fourth in the race.

Knox Central’s Jerry Clark won the boys’ JV race with Jonathan Howerton of Bell County placing second. Chad Evans, and Jackson Lefevers of Bell also earned medals in the race.

Bell girls Sarah Risner and Amanda Manning took first and second in the girls JV race.

In the Middle School races it was Middlesboro’s Josh White taking first place, just ahead of teammate Donnie Foister. Another Yellow Jacket Chris Leach was third with MMS’ Michael Foreman, Tyshon Kincaid and Jacob Vogues also earning medals.

Middlesboro’s Shayna Lawson took first place in the girls middle school race with teammate Kendra Keaton second, Bell’s Katherine Collins third and MMS’ Lindsey Johnson fourth.
