HARROGATE, Tenn. — After facing an early 5-2 hole, the Lincoln Memorial University Lady Railsplitters scored two quick buckets to take the lead and never trailed for the remainder of the contest en route to capturing a 70-58 victory over the Lions of Bryan College in women’s basketball action on Wednesday evening in Tex Turner Arena.

With the commanding victory, the Lady Railsplitters jump out to a 2-1 start in the early portion of the schedule. The Lions fall to 4-2 on the season with the loss.

Offensively, the Lady Railsplitters implemented a balanced attack throughout the contest to upend the Lions, as 11 players got into the scoring column, paced by MaRanda Boddie with 15 points. Boddie was extremely efficient from the floor, tallying her number on 6-7 shooting while adding five rebounds, two assists and a game-high three blocked shots.

Redshirt sophomore Edina Musa poured in 13 points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds to notch a double-double performance. Musa added an assist and two steals to bolster her resume from tonight’s performance.

The low post play for the Lady Railsplitters was a highlight of their victory as they outscored the Lions by a significant margin of 42-14 in the paint, while dominating the battle of the boards, 54-37. Mariah Richardson played a vital role in that output with seven points and six rebounds, Stevie Yazzie recorded six points and nine boards. Kortnay Cox and Elliotte Roberts added six points apiece off of the bench.

Senior guard Kelsey Bradford, listed at 5-3, led all players in the game with three steals.

The Lady Railsplitter defensive unit limited the Lions to only 30.8% shooting in the contest. LMU recorded 13 steals as a group and forced Bryan into committing 20 turnovers.

Morgan Burnette led the Lions with a game-high 18 points, while her teammate Ashley Davis added 14 points off the bench. Those two were the only to finish in double-figures for the Lions as Rachel Calfee was the next highest contributor with nine points in the losing effort. Jenna Ray was a force on the glass with nine rebounds to lead the Lions in that category.

The Lady Railsplitters outscored Bryan, 30-19, in the first period with a 20-2 disparity on points in the paint in that half. LMU also took advantage of the Lions’ miscues by tallying nine points off of turnovers in that frame.

In the second half of play, the Lady Railsplitters assumed as large as a 24-point lead before eventually settling for a 70-58 victory over the Lions to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Lincoln Memorial returns to action Tuesday when they welcome Winston Salem State to Tex Turner Arena for a nonconference match up. That game is set to tip at 6 p.m.
