What was formerly known as the “Loose Caboose”, a well known bar in Cumberland Gap, Tenn., now has new owners, a new name, and is in the process of getting revamped. From the menus, to the atmosphere, new owners Valerie and James Cornelius plan to make this local pub a more inviting place in the historical town of Cumberland Gap.
The new name “The Cumberland Gap Tavern” fits in better with the small town vibe says Cornelius. “It makes it a part of the experience for tourists visiting the area.”
Cornelius says the community of Cumberland Gap has given them really positive feedback. “The noise level has decreased and they feel that we are more a part of the community now,” he said.
So far the new owners have added four new flat screen televisions, glass doors, as well as cheaper drinks and new menu items. They have also added a brand new jukebox that connects to the Internet allowing customers to find any music they like. Also new is Karaoke and photo booth capabilities that connect with Facebook. There will also be food and drink specials everyday.
Cornelius added that he is in the process of meeting with food distributors and chefs to create a new menu with the best quality food that they are capable of cooking.
A deck is also being added to allow customers to sit outside and relax and enjoy their food and drinks. The deck will also serve as a place for smokers as the indoor area will eventually be non-smoking.
The new owners are also planning to add Karaoke nights and live music entertainment on certain nights.
They also pointed out that the Tavern can be scheduled for private parties.
Hours of operation at The Cumberland Gap Taverna are Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight. However, Cornelius said that when football season begins the Tavern will be open on Sunday so customers can enjoy watching the games on the big screen TVs.
