The Middlesboro 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars rallied for nine runs in the top of the sixth inning Monday to pull out a 10-3 win over Williamsburg and clinch a spot in the District 4 Tournament.

Jacob Spurlock and Bradley Short opened the sixth with hard singles back up the middle and Isiah Williams also singled to drive in one run. Taylor McClelland reached on an error as the tying run scored and J.D. Gambrel followed with a go-ahead two-run double into the right-center gap.

Trenton Stephney added an RBI double, Scotty Overbay an RBI single and Spurlock also doubled as the rally continued. Williams’ fielder’s choice grounder scored Overbay as Middlesboro turned a 3-1 deficit into a 10-3 win.

Short was the winning pitcher after getting the final out of the fifth inning and he pitched around an error in the bottom of the sixth to close out the game.

Williams pitched very well over the first 4-2/3 innings. He struck out 12 and gave up just one hit while walking three and hitting a batter. All three runs he allowed were unearned.

Knox County opened the tournament with a 14-1 win over Williamsburg on Saturday and punched their ticket to the District 4 Tournament with an 8-3 win over Middlesboro Sunday.

The District 4 Tournament begins Saturday in Corbin.
