PINEVILLE — Countless wrecks, injuries, and fatalities have occurred on Highway 119 from Bell County to Harlan, KY over the years and many have voiced concerns of the road’s safety. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KTC) seems to have taken notice and has scheduled a public meeting in Pineville to discuss improvements to what is considered one of the area’s most dangerous roads.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Page School Center.

“The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the study and to solicit thoughts, concerns, and opinions from the public on the issues, problems and solutions to be considered by the study,” the KTC said in an announcement. “Input provided by the public at this meeting will help the Cabinet make decisions about the need for and feasibility of transportation improvements as well as their and potential locations. Anyone having an interest in this planning study is urged to attend this meeting.”

The meeting will have an open exhibit area where officials will be prepared to answer questions and/or receive public input. The exhibits will outline the proposed study area, existing conditions, and provide the opportunity for the public tot detail the nature and location of problems on the highway. The exhibits will also be available for viewing from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for fifteen days after the meeting at the Kentucky Dept. of Highways District 11 Office, 100 Railroad Ave., Manchester, KY.

Comment sheets will also be distributed for the convenience of any who wish to write comments. A court reporter will be available during the meeting for oral comments. Written statements will be accepted at the meeting and for a period of fifteen days after the public meeting, addressed to the Kentucky Dept. of Highways District 7 Office, Attn: Adam Knuckles, P.E., P.O. Box 250, 100 Railroad Ave., Manchester, KY 40962 or returned using the postage-paid envelope provided with the comment sheet.

I drove this Road (119) While it was been built back in the 60s & 70S, it tuck some 10 to 12 years to Build the new road. It was a Death Trap when it was open. I think More people has been kill on the New 119 then was kill on the Old 30s to 60s Old 119... It is about time the TKC open their eyes. Lets See how long the TKC "Talks" about fixing the Death Road....
