HARROGATE, Tenn. — With the 2012-13 regular season in the books, the 12th-ranked Railsplitters turn their attention to postseason play. By virtue of Lincoln Memorial University’s top-four finish and SAC regular season championship, the top-seeded Railsplitters will host the eighth-seeded Tusculum College Pioneers at 7 p.m. in Tex Turner Arena on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament.

Lincoln Memorial (22-4, 15-3 SAC) rides into the postseason in the midst of a six-game winning streak which sealed the 2012-13 South Atlantic Conference regular season crown. The Railsplitters clinched the outright title and their second championship in three seasons with an 82-65 win over the Catawba Indians on Saturday evening in Tex Turner Arena.

By earning that championship, the Railsplitters picked up their second regular season championship since Josh Schertz took to the helm of the men’s basketball program (2008-09 season), as Lincoln Memorial won the 2010-11 SAC regular season and tournament championships.

Along with the regular season title, the Railsplitters were first in the most recent NCAA Division II southeast region rankings, and extended their current SAC record streak to 40-consecutive weeks ranked in the NABC national poll by moving to 12th prior to victories at Wingate and at home against Catawba this past week. Over the past four seasons, Lincoln Memorial has amassed a 95-22 record with a streak of four-consecutive 20-win seasons.

With the first goal of a regular season championship behind them, the Railsplitters set their mark on capturing the SAC tournament championship with the tourney run slated to begin on Wednesday. The Railsplitters head into that game boasting a 10-game winning streak against the Pioneers dating back to Jan. 6, 2010. The Railsplitters swept the season series over Tusculum this year, earning a 64-58 victory in Tex Turner and an 83-70 win in Greeneville.

That game is set to tip at 7 p.m. on the campus of Lincoln Memorial with the gates scheduled to open of 5:45 p.m. Lincoln Memorial University will sponsor the first 200 LMU students by providing free admission to the contest. Those students must present a valid LMU identification at the entrance to receive free admission. Adults (ages 13 and up) and seniors will be admitted for $6 with a one-dollar discount with an Food Lion MVP card, while college students and children (ages 12 and under) will be admitted for $3.

With a win in Wednesday’s contest, the Railsplitters would advance to the semifinals of the 2013 Food Lion SAC Tournament, scheduled for Saturday in Greenville, S.C. at Furman University’s Timmons Arena. In that contest, the Railsplitters would take on the winner of No. 4 Carson-Newman (19-7, 12-6 SAC) and No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne (18-8, 11-7 SAC). The championship game of the 2013 Food Lion SAC Tournament is slated for Sunday.
