Staff Report

The Bell County Board of Education’s District Facility Planning Committee will meet on Thursday to discuss future facility plans.

To be held at the Bell County Board of Education office in Pineville, the meeting will begin at 6:30 with public comment. Anyone interested may express ideas and concerns about the plan for the district’s facilities during this portion of the meeting.

During the regular meeting, the committee will review facility needs and information, as well as develop a draft facility plan.

The planning committee will also discuss revenue and bonding potential gained from the “recallable nickel” tax passed last year.

It was projected that the “recallable nickel” could generate $4 million in bonding capacity and $8,370,000 with state equalization.

School officials stated last year the revenue would go toward unmet facility needs within the district.

Several building additions and renovations are needed at Yellow Creek Elementary School because of an increase in student enrollment.

In addition, there are several improvements needed at Bell Central and Bell High School. Numerous other building projects are listed on the facility plan, including renovations at the central administrative office building.
