SelfRefind, a group of privately owned addiction recovery clinics, opened its newest clinic in downtown Middlesboro on Monday.

“Our goal is to get the patient’s life back (and we do so by) embracing the patient,” said Saundra Bargo, southeastern Kentucky regional manager. “We (also) want to connect with the community in a positive way (since) there is probably not a family unaffected (by drug abuse). I will be contacting community organizations, hoping to be able to build a positive relationship.”

SelfRefind is staffed with medical doctors who have special training in the use of Suboxone, a treatment drug for patients with opiate addiction. SelfRefind uses Suboxone to help patients recover from addiction to OxyContin, Lortab, morphine, heroin and Percocet.

Suboxone treatment begins in office on the day of the patient’s first visit. In order to begin treatment, the patient must already be in mild to moderate withdrawal when they show up for the initial visit. This means the patient should have not had any opiates for about 12 hours.

SelfRefind does not keep any medication on site. The patient’s driver leaves to get the prescription filled, while the patient gets registered, evaluated and completes necessary paperwork.

Once the medication arrives, the patient is immediately started on Suboxone. The patient’s induction process is monitored for at least two hours to make sure the Suboxone is working and there are not any adverse effects.

SelfRefind keeps patients accountable by using a method referred to as RAD. RAD stands for recovery assessment days. During RAD visits, the physicians and intake coordinators review the patient’s case file, discuss successes and difficulties the patient is experiencing and help to plan the patients continuing recovery.

RAD visits also consist of urine drug screens and pill counts to aid the recovering addict from an accountability standpoint. Any patient who is caught trafficking pills will be dismissed from the clinic.

New patients are required to come in for RAD visits every 10 days for the first two months of treatment.

SelfRefind offers a reward program for compliant patients. Compliant patients earn monetary discounts on the fees associated with treatment.

The clinic is located at 808 North 19th Street. The Middlesboro clinic is SelfRefind’s 11th Kentucky clinic.

The clinic is currently open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

An appointment is necessary to begin treatment. SelfRefind can be reached at the temporary number 248-3042 or the call center at 866-755-4258. When the clinic receives a new, permanent phone number, it will be listed on their website.
