Staff Report

Seven individuals were arrested on drug charges following an investigation by Det. Sgt. Joe Holder of the the Middlesboro Police Department (MPD). Holder brought a total of 10 drug trafficking charges between the individuals.

With the exception of one marijuana charge, the cases involved prescription drugs ranging from Diazepam (Valium) to Oxycodone. Holder began making arrests at the conclusion of the initial phase of a long term operation and more arrests are expected as his investigation continues.

Below are the individuals arrested on drug charges by Holder:

Phillip Smith, 30, was arrested on July 11 on the charge of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance (Suboxone);

Whitney Day, 21, was arrested on July 11 on the charge of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance (Suboxone);

The MPD states they remain committed to combating the drug problem and efforts range from undercover trafficking investigations to interdiction tactics by patrol officers. One of the most vital components of a drug enforcement program is community participation in the form of information.

Anyone having information about illegal drug sales, transportation or abuse is encouraged to contact the MPD at 248-3636. Tips will be kept confidential.

An arrest or indictment is an accusation only. Those arrested or indicted are to be presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
