Williamsburg came back from a seven-point deficit to knock off visiting Pineville, 62-55 Friday night.
The game turned during an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter. The Lions were outscored 26-12 in the final period.
“I really believe our depth wore them down,” Williamsburg coach Patrick Robinson said. “We used 11 guys tonight and I just think Pineville got really tired. We’ve got a lot of depth and that helped us outscore them in the end.”
Pineville jumped out to a 16-13 lead and maintained a 31-27 advantage at halftime. It looked as if the Mountain Lions were going to put the game away after they outscored Williamsburg 12-9 in the third quarter to take a 43-36 lead.
That’s when the Yellow Jackets took over.
Daniel Pettit led Williamsburg with a 16-point effort, while Derrick Lovett added 14 points. Steven Taylor also scored in double figures with 12 points.
Pineville got another strong game from junior guard Cody Hendrickson who finished with 14 points. Shawn Madon and Brandon Hollingsworth added 12 points apiece for the Lions.
Pineville (0-2) returns to action Tuesday at Middlesboro while Williamsburg (1-0) hosts Lynn Camp Tuesday.
