A man was killed Thursday evening when a the plane he was flying in crashed into the mountains near Chenoa.
A spokesman for the Bell County Rescue Squad says the squad was called out Thursday evening and was on the scene of the crash around 7 p.m.
Details were sketchy at press time, but according to Bell County Dispatch, the plane is a single-engine 1946 Bellanca, which was recertified in 1999 in Illinois.
The craft went down two miles off Highway 190 deep in the mountains near the Pumpkin Patch (Mason's Farm). According to reports, two men working in the area found the crash site around 5:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
Bell Dispatch and the Bell County Rescue Squad both confirmed that at least one man was killed in the crash. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Bell County Rescue Squad responded to the call with three units, including three four-wheelers and a mule. Bell County Deputy Coroner Bill Bisceglia was also called to the scene.
The FAA is expected to arrive today to continue the investigation.
