The search for the remains of a 54 year-old Rockcastle County man ended on Tuesday when his body was discovered along the Cumberland River in Knox County.
Lowell McDowell, of Wildie, was reported missing on April 6 by his wife. He had called her around 6 p.m. that day to report that he was trying out a new boat he had purchased.
The boat was found overturned near the Kentucky Utilities facility near Pineville later that night.
The Bell County Rescue Squad along with a host of other fire and rescue services from around the region scoured the area for McDowell's remains for several days thereafter.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the remains were found approximately one mile from the site where McDowell's boat was discovered.
The body is being sent to the Kentucky State Police Crime Lab in Frankfort for an autopsy and identification.
The case is under investigation by Detective Don Perry of KSP Post 10 in Harlan.
