A Pineville man was injured in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 25E at Ward Chapel Monday afternoon.

According to the Bell County Sheriff's Department, Dewayne Pate was travelling north when he tried to make a left hand turn. As he crossed the southbound lanes, his 1997 Ford pick-up was struck by tractor trailer driven by Paul Copley of Indiana.

The pick-up was pinned against the guardrail and Pate was trapped inside for around 30 minutes. He was removed by members of the Bell County Rescue Squad and airlifted to the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxvillle.

The accident is still under investigation by Deputy Carl Frith. He was assisted at the scene by the Bell County Rescue Squad, Middlesboro Fire Department, Bell County EMS, and the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department.
