Search for missing Rockcastle Co. man continues
The search for a missing Rockcastle County man has entered its second week with rescuers focusing up to 156 miles downstream from the sight in Pineville where Lowell McDowell, 54, of Wildie, was believed to have drown.
According to the Bell County Rescue Squad, rescue crews from accross Kentucky and Tennessee have been conducting extensive searches for McDowell's remains, but after Sunday those efforts would be scaled back to monitoring the river.
Rescuers used underwater cameras, dragging operations, serial searches of river banks and river sweeps using jet skis and Zodiac inflatable boats.
Organizations assisting Bell County Rescue Squad in the search include: the Harlan County Rescue Squad, Claiborne Co., Tenn., Rescue Squad, Williamsburg Rescue Squad, Madison County Rescue Squad, Jessamine County Rescue Squad, Kentucky Search Dog Association, Estill County Rescue Squad, Life Net Aero Medical, 123rd Special Tactics Squadron of the Kentucky Air National Guard, Knox County SORT, Pulaski County Rescue Squad, McCreary County Rescue Squad, Bluegrass Search and Rescue, Nicholasivlle Fire Department, Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, Lincoln County Rescue Squad and the Millard Fire Department.
The American Red Cross and local businesses helped support the large number of rescue organizations involved in the search.
