The Pineville Lady Lions and Mountain Lions traveled to Harlan County Monday for a pair of scrimmage games against the Black Bears in an SEKC Panorama.

In the girls’ game the Lady Bears played a lot like last year’s regional runner-up squad as they outscored Pineville 75-36.

Harlan County freshman Brooklyn Massengill led all scorers with 17 points while the Lady Bears got eight point apiece from Madison Cornett, Shannon Shackleford and Bella Noe.

The Lady Lions were led by junior forward Devin Enix with 13 points while freshman guard Erica Gambrell added 12. Rounding out the Pineville scoring were Annalee Adams with seven points and Rachel Barnes and Stacey Washington with two each.

Pineville’s girls open the regular season on Nov. 27 at Oneida Baptist in a 6 p.m. tip-off while Harlan County hosts Williamsburg in their opener that same evening.

Monday’s boy’s match-up featured a pair of teams with regional championship aspirations as Harlan County made the tournament last year with a junior-led squad and Pineville returns all five starters from last year’s team that reached the regional semifinals.

With most of the attention on all the seniors on the floor, it was sophomore Tyler Miller leading the Bears with 19 points as they outscored the Lions 65-53.

Harlan County also got 17 points from Alex Sergent and eight from James Bond in the scrimmage.

For Pineville Jared Philpot led the way with 11 points while John Simpson added 10. Rounding out a balanced Mountain Lion scoring line, Seth Jeffrey and Cody Collett finished with eight points each, Byron David Asher and Dalton Ledbetter six apiece and Connor Ford and Jacob Skinner both scored two.

Pineville will open the regular season at home on Nov. 27 (next Tuesday) against Jackson County while Harlan County plays their first real game on Dec. 1 at home against Sullivan Central, Tenn.
