The man accused of transporting a Bell County teen to Connecticut was booked into the Bell County Detention Center on Friday. David Hernandez, 51 of New Britain, Conn., has been charged with felony custodial interference and first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor..
Bail for Hernandez has been set for $1 million.
Hernandez allegedly took 14-year-old Madison York of Dorton Branch to New Britain earlier this month. She was found less than 48 hours later.
In other court news, an Arjay man was sentenced to five years in the penitentiary after pleading guilty to burglary charges. James R. Rice, 22, pleaded guilty in Bell County Circuit Court to two counts of second-degree burglary and one count third-degree burglary.
According to the indictment, Rice unlawfully entered the dwelling of two victims with the intent to commit a crime. Rice was originally arrested by troopers from the Kentucky State Police.
Rice’s sentence will run consecutively with an earlier theft conviction. That conviction was placed against Rice when he stole a trailer valued at more than $500.
Rice was sentenced to a total of six years with both convictions combined.
Jeffery Taylor was also scheduled to be sentenced on Friday on a third-degree burglary charge, and two theft charges. His sentencing was continued until Feb. 15.
