HARROGATE, Tenn. — Claiborne’s Lady Bulldogs used a 16-2 run in the third quarter to pull away and went on to a 53-31 win at Cumberland Gap Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Heather Bolden’s 26 points. Dakota Turner added nine while Haley Bolden and Lora Bunch chipped in with six apiece.

Cumberland Gap was led by senior forward Whitney Elliott with eight points. The Lady Panthers got five points each from Chelsea Bingham and Ashley Ridgeley.

Thing started off well for the Lady Panthers as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead on a basket from Bingham and two free throws each by Elliott and Ridgeley.

Claiborne didn’t get on the scoreboard until Bunch was fouled after grabbing an offensive rebound. She hit both free throws wtih 3:33 to play in the first period to make it 6-2.

Ridgely hit one free throw and later added a basket for a 9-6 Lady Panther lead. Bolden hit a long two-pointer and Turner scored inside to give Claiborne their first lead at 10-9, with 1:30 to play in the first.

A Bingham free throw tied the score a little later, but Bolden knocked down a 3-pointer and it was 13-10 Lady Bulldogs after one.

Baskets by Kierstyn Carmical and Genna Lake pulled Cumberland Gap within 15-14, but Bolden scored five straight points to put Claiborne in control and they led 29-20 by halftime.

Bingham was fouled on the opening possession of the second half and hit both free throws, but it was all Claiborne from there. Bolden hit one free throw and then sank a 3-pointer. Elliott drove the baseline for two, but Kylie Rowe answered with a basket of her own for the Lady Bulldogs and Turner scored after rebounding her own missed free throw. A steal and layup by Bolden pushed the lead to 39-24 by the midway point of the quarter.

A 3-pointer by Haley Bolden capped the 16-2 run and made the score 45-24.

A 3 by Heather Bolden early in the fourth gave the Lady Bulldogs their biggest lead of the night at 50-26 and they went on to win by 22.

Cumberland Gap (1-6, 0-4) plays at Knox Central, Ky., today while Claiborne (5-4, 2-2) hosts Pigeon Forge on Tuesday.
