Dale Ann Bradley and Steve Gulley will once again be bringing some of the best in mountain music to the Cumberland Mountain Music Show Saturday.

The show, which will be held at the Bell Theatre in Pineville, will feature a line-up of Bluegrass musicians including Debbie Gulley, wife of Steve Gulley.

Debbie Gulley has been thrilling audiences with her wonderful singing style for most of her life. From the little country town of Cropper in Shelby County, she began singing at an early age and began her professional career as singer at the age of 13.

Beginning as the lead singer in a gospel group with her sisters known as The Clark Sisters, Debbie branched out on her own to sing country music. She was a featured vocalist at the Six-Mile Jamboree in Defoe, then a featured vocalist at the Country Place Jamboree in Frankfort. By age 16, she was performing all over Kentucky, Indiana and surrounding areas.

She also performed on the nationally known Midnight Jamboree, The Little Roy Wiggins Show and The Ernest Tubb Gospel Show in Nashville, Tenn. From Lincoln Jamboree in Hodgenville, to night clubs, to joining several country bands over the years, she stayed busy performing.

In 1990, after winning the Kentucky title and the Southeast U.S. Regional title, she was one of seven national finalists in the True Value Country Showdown held at the Grand Ole Opry (now known as the TEXACO Country Showdown). She competed and won against thousands of performers such as John Michael Montgomery, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry (now Montgomery-Gentry).

With a rich heritage in country music as well as a fine Kentucky pedigree and now living in Claiborne County, she has been the opening act or performed with many artist such as Vince Gill, Lorrie Morgan, Tammy Wynette, Mickey Gilley, Sweethearts of the Rodeo, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Highway 101, Eddie Raven and Patty Loveless, to name a few.

Wanting to settle down and raise a family, she later became a featured staff vocalist and cast member at the historic Renfro Valley Barn Dance, where she recently retired after 28 years. Debbie continues to perform regionally as well as nationally along with her husband and Claiborne County native Steve Gulley and Bell County’s own Dale Ann Bradley. She is now a regular featured performer on the Cumberland Mountain Music Show.

The Cumberland Mountain Music Show curtain time is 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the door for $12.

Debbie is one ot the most talented people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I worked with her for a while at the Ky. Division of Forestry, and she was always courteous and helpful. Sweet as a bees knees. Debbie, you are the best.

History abounds at Oven Fork Mercantile
In March, my husband and I drove over U.S. 119 from Pikeville on our way to Cumberland. He has collected blues, country and jazz music, circa 1920s to the mid-1930s, for about 30 years now. Every time we pass a yard sale, a flea market or an old store that looks promising, he slams on the brak...
