Staff Report

The fourth suspect involved in the alleged robbery at the home of Kelsey Smith in Pineville has been arrested.

Whitney D. Brock, 19, of Pineville, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Roy Pace on a failure to appear warrant and bond violation charge on Jan. 1.

Brock was allegedly the initial person who made contact at the Smith home. She allegedly came to the Smith residence and bummed a cigarette. A short time later, three individuals came into the residence and held down Smith and Margaret Inman, assaulted them and took Smith’s purse, according to the victims.

Brock has been indicted and faces a first-degree robbery charge. She will appear in court Monday.

The other three suspects involved in the robbery have pleaded guilty. Demetrice Osborne, 28, and Joshua Hubbard, 23, pleaded guilty in October. Whitney Cain, 20, pleaded guilty in December.

In other news, what started out as an alleged shoplifting charge at Walmart resulted in two women being arrested on drug charges.

As customers were paying for their items on Wednesday afternoon, Walmart employee Abigale Moore came running through the front of the store. Customers looked around puzzled because there had not been any security alarms go off.

Moore stopped a woman who was attempting to exit the store. After a brief encounter, Moore retrieved a box from the woman and tried to detain her. The woman fled the store, but Moore was able to identify to police the make and model of the vehicle in which she left the parking lot.

The police report states officers pulled the vehicle over in the Cracker Barrel parking lot where they were able to identify the Walmart customer as Amy Hammack, of Corbin. Officers obtained consent to search the vehicle.

The report states that the search of the vehicle revealed a makeup bag containing one loaded syringe, an empty syringe and two tourniquets under the passenger seat. Hammack reportedly told the officers the loaded syringe contained oxycodone.

As a result of the search, Amy Hammack and Amanda McGowen were charged with theft by unlawful taking (shoplifting) as well as first-degree possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, first offense.
