The recycling center received an approval for the 2012-2013 Kentucky Pride Fund Recycling grant. The grant was announced during the regularly scheduled 109 Board meeting on Tuesday. The grant totaled out at $81,005.93.
The recycling center received almost everything they requested in the grant. Those items include a reconditioned horizontal baler, recycling containers, three recycling trailers and advertising, amongst other items the money will be used for.
Recycling Center Director Kevin Smith mentioned putting a recycling booth at the upcoming downtown block party on Saturday but nothing has been confirmed. The booth will hold information about recycling.
There was also discussion about setting up a booth at the Cumberland Falls Festival, but nothing has been confirmed.
Several truckloads of material have been sent out by the recycling center with another load in the process of being sent out.
There are a couple of new companies that have started working with the recycling center, Boone’s BP in Virginia and the forestry camp. The center picks up about a load of cardboard a week from the forestry camp.
There are plans to talk with clubs at different schools about recycling to see if any programs can be started at the schools amongst the children.
The 109 Board voted not to increase tax rates for the 2012-2013 year during the meeting as well. In regards to the budget, there was one adjustment mentioned at the meeting.
The board added $10,000 for maintenance in the budget. The board then approved the 2012-2013 budget appropriations.
Other business taken care of included the approval of minutes for previous meeting and the enforcement reports for the months of May, June and July.
