A Middlesboro man has been sentenced to five years in the penitentiary for receiving stolen property over $500, according to the Bell Circuit Court Clerk’s office.

Danny Bullock, 30, of Middlesboro, was sentenced on the charge after taking scrap metal.

Officers from the Middlesboro Police Department received a call to the 40th Street industrial park in reference to a male loading a green pickup truck with scrap metal, according to the arrest citation. Upon arrival, MPD officer Floyd Patterson found the truck loaded with scrap metal. Patterson said he eventually found Bullock laying under some type of metal rack hiding.

When found, Bullock’s eyes were bloodshot and he had slurred speech, according to the citation. Bud Light was found inside the vehicle. At the time of the arrest, Bullock was also charged with alcohol intoxication and first-degree disorderly conduct.

In other police news:

* James H. Warren, 33, of Middlesboro, was arrested by Kevin Goodin of the Pineville Police Department for theft of a controlled substance.

According to the arrest citation, Warren allegedly stole a Rite Aid bag containing medication. The medication belonged to an unidentified Pineville man. Warren was released from the Bell County Detention Center on Monday.

* The MPD arrested a Middlesboro man for theft by unlawful taking over $500. Larry Ray Carroll, 47, of Middlesboro, was arrested by MPD officer Justin Barton.

According to the citation, Carroll allegedly stole six pieces of jewelry from a female victim. All of the jewelry was allegedly sold to J.B. Gold Buyers, but was eventually recovered. The jewelry was valued at approximately $1,500.

Carroll was released from the Bell County Detention Center on Friday.

Curtis Howerton II was also arrested by the MPD after two complaint warrants were taken out on him.

Barton arrested Howerton on the charge of theft by unlawful taking over $500, receiving stolen property under $500 and theft by deception.

A second complaint warrant was taken out by officer Jordan Hurd for second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
