The Middlesboro girls’ tennis team ran their record to 13-0 on the seasons with a 9-3 win over Whitley County on Tuesday.

Lady Jackets took seven of the eight singles matches, with senior Taylor Moyers setting the tone with an 8-0 win over Desirae Sturgill. At number two singles, it was Madison Saylor downing Brittany Fuson 8-1. Hannah Warren defeated Anna Grace Zehr 8-4 and Jane Millett got past Hallie Jones 8-2.

Lady Jacket Ellie Epperson defeated Jade Bland 8-3 and Marissa Ferguson pulled out an 8-6 win over Whitley County’s Emily Vanderpool. Rounding out singles’ play it was Lady Colonel Nan Zhang beating Sydney Lay 8-0.

The teams split four doubles matches with Middlesboro’s Saylor and Baylie Brunsma defeating Zehr and Mahan 8-3 while Lady Jackets Millett and Warren doubled up Fuson and Jones 8-4. Whitley County got an 8-6 win from Bland and Zhang over the team of Alex Chadwell and Haley Gulley while Pool and Zehr defeated Lady Jackets Kaleigh Foreman and Taylor Thomas 8-3.

The boys played just one doubles match with Middlesboro’s Micah Robbins and Eric Francis rallying for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Whitley County’s Matthew Douglas and Chris Tan.

Rain washed out Middlesboro’s match at the J. Frank White Academy on Wednesday. The Jackets and Lady Jackets are scheduled to play at Lynn Camp today.
