Bell County Judge-Executive Albey Brock addressed the recent theft of his county vehicle.

His remarks, which came during the regular fiscal court meeting on Tuesday, concerned the county-owned green Jeep Patriot which was stolen from the courthouse square, taken to Bradford Town and set on fire on April 4.

Brock assured people that he was OK after being questioned several times about his well-being.

Brock said the Bell County Sheriff’s Department is aggressively investigating the situation.

“You can rest assured the sheriff’s department is doing everything that they can to try and apprehend the person that did it,” said Brock.

Brock said the department does have leads they are following.

Brock said the destruction of the Jeep is of no loss to the taxpayers. Brock said he bought the Jeep back in 2009 for around $16,400. The current book value for the vehicle is between $11,000 and $12,000. The vehicle was fully insured.

Brock said he did not take the theft and destruction of his vehicle personal.

“A lot of people have things stolen and the county is not immune from theft,” said Brock.

He also said he does not perceive the act as a threat.

“If it were (a threat), rest assured it will not work,” said Brock.

Brock also addressed the recent audit for the Bell County Sheriff’s Department. He commended sheriff Bruce Bennett for having yet another clean audit.

“You’ve never had a bad one,” said Brock, commending Bennett for his history with audits.

Thing don't get done around here cause they know the cops won't do anything. Do you ever see them patrolling the highways for speeders? Do you see them watching neighborhoods? We supposingly have all these cops and you never see them around. Wonder where they are? We don't have a donut shop around so they can't use that excuse. Oh that's right, they took the cars home and sitting there. We need cops that will get out there and patrol our areas then maybe things might change but then again who knows. If Bell County Sheriff's can afford new cars, then get them out on the road like they are suppose to be used. We don't need a dozen cops standing around in the court house. Get them on the street to protect and serve our community.

You people in Bell County, are there any decent citizens among you left? I am starting to think not. You not got teachers selling pills and engaging in acts of perversion with the students. You got some mystery arsonist setting fires. You got multiple incidents in the past of the law enforcement abusing the citizens. Several high profile murders that for some reason or other never got solved. Most of you are on some sort of substance. You now got the youth purposely maiming and killing animals just for amusement. None of you can effectively run any kind of services that are supposed to be provided to the citizens with out it getting dirt on your hands. And you folks that are half way decent? You stand and look on because you do not want to get involved. You all are just as bad. Do you all worship the devil now? It looks like it to me.

You touched on a topic that could cover a book - or at least a couple seasons of "Justified". The short answer is that all the positions of power are controlled by or linked to a rather small circle of influence. That's why it takes outside authority to get what is supposed to be law, order, and justice.

For the naysayers, how else do you explain a den of thieves operating for years in plain view only a block from the courthouse? And nobody saw nuthin.
