The Pineville Mountains overcame a slow start in a big way on Tuesday. They trailed Lynn Camp 4-1 after one inning, but put up four runs in the second, nine in the third and eight in fourth on the way to a 22-4 district win.
“We put up 22 runs and that shows what we have the potential to do,” said Pineville coach Scott Jeffrey. “We made two errors in the first inning and other than that we didn’t make another one.”
Tyler Evans had four hits, scored four times and drove in three while Tanner Mike, Jordan Slusher and Connor Ford also reached base four times in the game. The Lions got production all through their line up. It was Ford’s two-run double in the second that gave Pineville the lead for good and the offense just kept on rolling.
Slusher gave up four unearned runs in the top of the first inning, but came back to strike out the side. He finished the five-inning two-hitter with 12 strikeouts while walking six.
“Jordan did a heck of a job on the hill. We had two errors and two walks in the first inning and that’s where the runs came from. After that he had 12 strike outs in fifteen outs, he made it easy for us,” Jeffrey added.
Pineville evens their record at 6-6 overall and now stands at 1-1 in 51st District play. They’ll play at Bell County on Thursday.
“Hopefully we can play Thursday night. Emotions will be high, it’s always a big rivalry for us playing Bell County. Hopefully our kids will just go up there and play like they’re capable of and it will be a good ball game,” Jeffrey said.
Lynn Camp falls to 0-11 on the season and they’ll play at Middlesboro on Thursday.
