School policies vary on Valentine’s Day

Reina P. Cunningham

Staff Writer

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and many loved ones may be thinking about ordering gifts for students. If you plan on having your gifts delivered to a local school, make sure you are abiding by the school’s rules.

Due to safety reasons, Middlesboro Independent Schools do not allow Valentine’s deliveries at any school in the district.

The universal rule for Bell County Schools is students who ride the bus cannot receive glass vases or balloons. A reason for this rule is to ensure the bus driver’s view remains unobstructed from balloons the entire time students are on the bus and to eliminate the possibility of injury from broken glass.

Some schools in the Bell County School System have additional policies and procedures regarding Valentine Day deliveries.

The Frakes School Center allows students to come to the front office to see their gift, but they cannot take the gift to the classroom. Parents can pick up the gifts when they pick up their children at the end of the day.

The Page School Center holds all deliveries until the end of the day in order to prevent classroom disruption numerous times throughout the day.

Yellow Creek School Center also holds all deliveries until the end of the day and disperses them while students are having their Valentine’s parties.

Bell County High School has a system in which staff distribute deliveries at intervals throughout the day in order to minimize class interruptions.

Bell County Area Technology center will accept deliveries for students, but prefer student deliveries be sent to the student’s home school in order to ensure timely delivery.

Pineville Independent Schools have the same universal policy as Bell County Schools — no glass vases or balloons will be accepted.

Pineville Elementary School will begin accepting deliveries at 9 a.m. while Pineville High School does not accept deliveries until 11:30 a.m. Both schools will disperse deliveries to students at 2 p.m.

Please note there is no school on Monday for Middlesboro Independent Schools due to a professional day and Wednesday is an early release day. Middlesboro Primary and Middlesboro Intermediate will be releasing at 12:45 p.m. Middlesboro Middle School will release at 1:10 p.m. Middlesboro High School will release at 1:15 p.m.
