With cold weather right around the corner, Kentucky Utilities (KU) has many energy efficiency programs available to help customers save money.
According to Darlene Long, business office manager for KU, there are two major factors contributing to monthly energy use. These are weather and individual energy use habits, she said.
KU recently had an energy efficiency day at the Middlesboro office. During the event, designated employees helped customers sign up for energy efficiency programs and talked with customers about things they can do around their homes to help reduce energy usage, said Long.
More than 60 customers signed up that day for a variety of money saving programs. She said the utility company wants to emphasize that if you weren’t able to attend the event, you haven’t missed out on these great opportunities.
Long said KU encourages customers to contact them to learn how you can have your old, working refrigerator or freezer recycled at no additional cost and earn $30 in return.
According to Long, you can earn $50 to $300 in rebates for certain home energy upgrades. You can also gain energy saving ideas customized for your home in a convenient online report, she said.
“We want to help customers better understand how they’re using energy at home, and what they can do to reduce their energy usage,” she said. “Sometimes a person may not be aware that taking steps like turning off lights, adjusting the thermostat or sealing duct work can reduce their energy usage.”
