Organizers are set to kick off another season of Cruisin’ the Crater in Middlesboro.
This is the eighth year for the annual event and expectations are high for another fun summertime.
“It’s an event that everyone should come out for,” said Leman Moyers, event coordinator. “This is good, clean, family fun. That’s why we’re doing this. We’re trying to provide free, wholesome entertainment.”
“We also want to promote tourism for the city of Middlesboro,” Moyers said. “We have guests come from Morristown, Kingsport, Knoxville, Hazard, Corbin, Somerset and all over the region.”
Moyers said organizers expect around 1,500 people, with more than 300 cars on display.
The event is working in conjunction with its sponsors, Bell County Tourism and the Middlesboro Mall.
Organizers are also quick to recognize the city of Middlesboro and the support received from officials.
The season is quickly approaching and will officially kick off on May 18.
From May through September, the event will transpire every third Saturday of the month from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m.
“We will be out there, come rain or come shine,” said Moyers.
It is held at the Middlesboro Mall parking lot.
It offers free admission and free setup.
Also, the event’s location will provide many options for food, shopping and even overnight lodging.
There will be a live DJ every month for entertainment.
The first month will also begin with a preliminary car show, with trophies awarded to winners.
The car show, being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., serves as a fundraiser for Bell County High School’s senior trip.
In June, there will be a live band performing as part of the entertainment.
