Bell County Judge-Executive Albey Brock had his county vehicle, a green Jeep Patriot, stolen from the courthouse square and set on fire Thursday afternoon.

“This just goes to show that nothing is safe when a vehicle can be stolen at 12 p.m. in broad daylight with the bumpers and doors emblazoned with ‘Bell County Fiscal Court’ sitting outside the courthouse,” said Brock. “

Brock said he was in Middlesboro when the theft occurred. Deputy Shane Stewart of the Bell County Sheriff’s Department said it was unknown, at first, that the vehicle was stolen because it was not uncommon for the vehicle to be gone from the courthouse square.

Stewart said the vehicle was taken between 11:30 a.m. and noon. At 1 p.m., the sheriff’s department received a call about a vehicle on fire near Bradford Town.

Stewart and deputy BJ Brock responded to the call. When the two arrived the vehicle was still on fire. The vehicle was identified as Brock’s Jeep. The case is under investigation and is being treated as arson.
