The Middlesboro Lady Jacket tennis team remained unbeaten on the year as they swept all nine matches from Harlan County. The MHS boys also played well in taking eight of nine matches from the Black Bears.
Middlesboro’s girls are now 9-0 on the season while the boys are 8-2. Both will be back in action today at Bell County.
Senior Taylor Moyers set the tone early for the Lady Jackets as she cruised to an 8-0 win over Jessica Stamper at number one singles. Madison Saylor topped Sarah Miles 8-1 and Baylie Brunsma also blanked Brittany Napier 8-0 in the number three spot.
Rounding out singles play, it was Middlesboro’s Hannah Warren defeating Ashley Whitehead 8-2, Jane Millett blanking Katie Ellison 8-0 and Ellie Epperson beating Tiffany Akers 8-1.
The Lady Jackets alwo swept the doubles play with Saylor and Brunsma defeating Stamper and Miles in a forfeit; Marissa Ferguson and Alex Chadwell doubling up Napier and Ellison 8-4; and Sydney Lay and Haley Gulley getting past Amber Walters and Allison Blanton 8-3.
In boys singles, Middlesboro’s Micah Robbins impressed with an 8-2 win over Caleb Bailey while J.P. Maiden topped Harlan County’s Joey Eldridge at number two singles 8-3. Jacket Eric Francis held off Jacob Cornett 8-5 and Owen Collins topped Drayven Gist 8-3. Abishehk Singh and Christoff Naylor completed a Middlesboro sweep of singles matches with 8-4 wins over Jacob Raleigh and Nathan Halcomb, respectively.
The Jackets took two of three doubles matches, led by Robbins and Francis teaming up for an 8-4 win over Bailey and Eldridge. Harlan County’s Cornett and Raleigh topped Singh and Jacob Jones 8-2 for the Bears only win on the day. Middlesboro’s Jacob Voges adn Clay Green capped the 8-1 win with an 8-5 win over Ethan Hughes and Gist.
